Green card for a month

When traveling through the territory of Ukraine, you should have a CITPL policy with you, which insures the driver's civil liability. If you plan to travel abroad, you should apply for a Green Card for a month. The document is similar to the CITPL with the difference that its validity extends to the following territories:

• countries that are members of the European Union;
• Azerbaijan, Russia, Moldova, Belarus.

Traveling through the territory of the country with a policy not intended for travel through this country will be considered driving without insurance. The driver will be fined administratively, and if such travel becomes known when registering an accident, the guilty party will have to bear all the costs themselves.

The guarantor of payments is the Motor Transport Insurance Bureau of Ukraine. For this reason, any policy is subject to mandatory registration with the MTIBU.

The right to issue a policy is held by any individual or legal entity that operates a vehicle outside Ukraine on legal grounds.

Insured event: what is it?

Any road accident that occurred on the territory of a country participating in the international insurance system "Green Card". In the event of a road accident, the following may occur:

• damage to the vehicle;
• damage to property;
• passengers injured in the collision.

All of this is compensated by the insurance company of the driver who has a Green Card.

In order to be entitled to compensation, the road accident must be registered in accordance with local legislation.

Cost and limits of payments under the Green Card

Registration of a Green Card for a month is required for drivers who make medium-term trips abroad, and is not so expensive. Among the factors that affect the price of the final product are the following:

• country of destination;
• registration period;
• engine capacity and dimensions of the vehicle.

The registration period varies from 15 days to 1 year. The longer the policy is purchased, the greater the likelihood of an insured event. Therefore, an increase in the term leads to an increase in the price of the Green Card.

The upper limit of payments depends on the state in which the accident occurred, and is regulated by local legislation and legal norms.

Rules for issuing a Green Card for a month

Currently, Ukrainian legislation does not provide for an electronic version of the insurance policy. The buyer can enter data online and pay for the purchase, but the form will be sent to the address of the nearest Nova Poshta branch.

The following policies are considered invalid:

• issued after September 1, 2018 and not registered with the MTIBU;
• filled out by hand.

Despite the fact that these rules may complicate the purchase, they exclude fraudulent actions with the document.
