History and purpose

Over the decades, Ukrainian citizens have become accustomed to the existence of the OSCPV policy. Autocivilka is an internal insurance policy, its tariffs, functions and all other nuances are regulated by the legislation of Ukraine. Since globalization processes lead to labor and social migration to other countries, the world community has long since come up with the "Green Card" insurance policy, which insures autocivil liability in the event of a car trip abroad.

The idea of creating a universal insurance policy that would be recognized by all countries appeared back in 1949. The Insurance Bureau was immediately organized, and the first Green Card insurance was issued in 1953. The principle is simple - if a country becomes a member of the "Green Card" system, then other member countries of the agreement recognize such car insurance of a foreign car owner.

Today, the headquarters of the Insurance Bureau is located in the capital of Belgium, and the Green Card community includes 48 countries. Green Card insurance has become so popular that today the insurance policy is recognized not only in the EU, but also in other European countries (Belarus, Moldova), and even in the Middle East, Asia and Africa. Thanks to the Green Card, car insurance for traveling abroad has become much easier and cheaper.

What has changed after the arrival of the Green Card in Ukraine

Ukraine has been cooperating with the "Green Card" system since 1997. Now all car owners are required to purchase a Green Card if they are going to leave the country by car. Green Card insurance has a unified template for all countries (you can see the template below), and the guarantor of payments under Green Card insurance is the Motor Transport Insurance Bureau of Ukraine (MTIB). MTIB also determines the tariffs, that is, the state decides how much a Green Card costs to Russia or Poland, for example. The cost of Green Card insurance in Ukraine for the same direction is approximately the same, but buying a Green Card directly at the border will be more expensive.

 Both individuals and legal entities can buy a Green Card for traveling abroad. It is worth realizing that Green Card insurance does not cover damage to the car and luggage, harm to the health of the person at fault in the accident, or the costs of compensating for environmental damage caused by the car of the insurance holder. There are also a number of other nuances regarding payments that are regulated by interdepartmental agreements of the countries participating in the Green Card system. In fact, this is an analogue of the OSCPV policy, but the Green Card insurance is valid only during your foreign trip.
